This time was especially difficult. Every year, we don't know quite what to expect at ACDA All-State Honor Choir Auditions, and this year was no exception. We arrived, waited, and went in to the room of doom. We had Ms. Donna McCommon herself as one of our judges. She's the retired director of Pearl High School's award-winning Choral program, who still runs the BEST Honor choir you can be in right here in Mississippi. We are very privileged to be able to try out every year.
This year, we learned that they ARE, in fact, looking for a blended ensemble sound in the quartet format we audition in. See, we'd assumed from previous years that they were looking to audition the individuals and so being sure you did your part very very well was more important than presenting a choral sound. So, they were nice enough to let us fix what they did not want to hear, and present our best blended choral sound. The kids did a fantastic job adjusting to the new task, and I was proud of them.
